Going to the oncology department of the hospital and receiving my chemo over 4 and a half hours was like a spa experience. Sure, there were some needles but a spa experience also involves some poking and lying around waiting for the treatments to take affect. Following the treatment I returned home thinking, "Not so bad." I was not tired and I did not appear to be suffering from any heat or rash.
I actually went to a three hour meeting that afternoon and my energy remained high. Next day, I felt about the same. It was the afternoon and then the evening of the third day when it all kicked in. I was so sick, I did not know if I could live through this. I used the pills that I was given and was very thankful to have them. That did not help the achy legs however and . . . what achy legs there were. For the next 3 days I could not sleep except for a very short time. It hurt so bad in my feet that I could barely tolerate it without crying. I had brain fog. My body rejected it all. I took extra strength Tylenol and it actually made me nauseous. Finally, in the morning on the third day, I went to the store and got some regular strength Tylenol. It was really too late because I was starting to get better, but it did improve the situation more quickly than not having the pills.
That's my first treatment. I have three months of treatments to go. Check back.
